Founded in 1960, Virginia CLE® is the educational branch of the Virginia Law Foundation (an IRS 501(c)3 charitable organization). Virginia CLE® is the main provider of continuing education to the state’s legal community and has been continuously voted the #1 continuing legal education provider by Virginia Lawyers Weekly readers.
The Virginia Law Foundation/Virginia CLE® Designations Program is a professional accreditation in several practice areas. Individuals who have achieved such recognition have taken a rigorous course of study over three years from Virginia CLE® and have met other practice area and peer review criteria that show their ability to practice at a high level in their respective area(s) of specialty.
Some criteria for a Qualified Master Counselor include:
- Has been practicing law for a minimum of 12 continuous years in the designated practice area at the time of application
- Has spent 25 percent of the time practicing in this area over the past 12 years
- Has taken or taught a minimum 30 Virginia CLE® subject matter credits over the last three-year period in designation practice area(s) (six Virginia CLE® teaching credits can be substituted where four hours of credit for every hour taught)
- An active Virginia State Bar member in good standing
